    Practical Universal Martial Arts (PUMA)- is a IKCA Kenpo School Located in Gaithersburg, Maryland. some of the unique qualities about are group is that we don't have a curriculum but more so, a framework and have integrated other martial arts as apart of the practice. without the need of many forms or hundreds of techniques and uses IKCA Kenpo curriculum as its framework. Sifu Greg Payne is the Head Instructor of PUMA with the help of his 1st 2 black belts Josh & Joey Pestaner as Instructors.   • The Core warriors of ULTIMATE ESKRIMA A group picture of our family at our training gym in the SILVER SPRING, MD last December 2011. Its our core group of FMA practitioners who gathered to propagate the Filipino martial art to the Washington DC, MD and Virginia states. Though we are less known among the famous groups of FMA we have spread the art to various parts of the US by supporting prestigious cultural events sponsored by different Fil-Am groups.
  • Bare handed drills The mano-mano (Visayan term), empty hand, bare hand,pangamot, tai chi ...you name it are prretty similar terms for the hand combat skills. So whats the difference? It is in the manner the hands are trained to parry, block and strike to neutralize and overcome the opponents intentions. In UE we do it very differently after meticulously researching the suppination and pronation of the hands. By applying the principles of the joints' motions and their limitations we conceived the practical way of using the empty hand aspect the practical way. Remember, it takes a lot of practice to master the bare hand art of fighting.
  • With Guro Dan Inosanto In one of our momorable tournaments in Baltimore we were honored by the presence of a special guest Guro Dan Inosanto. In the foreground is Kevin Mittleman , our Ultimate Eskrima Champion in the lightweight division. Kevin trained with us for just 2 months to gain recognition in the FMA arena. He tried to test his skill without hesitaiton and fear against the blackbelts of other FMA groups. UE has no belt system but willing to put their skills to the test.
  • BBQ IN ELENA\'S POOL After all the months of FMA activities we at Ultimate Eskrima take a break from the strain of training. Here at the pool we share the joys of relaxation and delicious food offered by Maria Elena (not Zorro's wife) but a Filipina by blood. Train hard and eat healthy food to keep up with the demands of FMA discipline.
  • The bare hand application From weapons we switched to the bare hand applications. FMA does not cater fully to weapons training but incorporates the hand techniques (empty hand) to its combat weaponry. UE has the hand to hand parrying and striking techniques which resembles other empty hand maneuvers but in a more unorthodox way. There is no sequential or patterned striking motions but rather the strikes are delivered continuously and randomly towards the opponent. Both teacher and the student (as the case in UE stick fighting) gets hit in the process. This methodology is again based on the principle of intricate joint movements of the upper extremities to deliver a strike against a frontal assault in bare handed situations. This is where the skills are tested no belt level..just real skills.
